What do apples, raccoons, and a flock of birds have in common?

They are all a part of the new selection of Cotton + Steel that we received recently. If you like navy and red or if you like a quirky subject for your quilt, then we may have just what you're looking for. Cotton + Steel are renowned for their enjoyable subject matter and these three are no different. I hope your Monday is as much fun as a raccoon wearing a red bow.

It's a wrap

The Judy Newman weekend workshop has come to a close, and some beautiful things have been accomplished. When compiling these pictures from todays class, it's become evident how eclectic every persons block is and how this all starts from one fabric choice. From there, it grows until the fabrics choose themselves, (along with a nudge from Judy). We've seen some beautiful finished quilts from Mary-Ann and Carolyn, and we've seen some fantastic starts to new creations. Thank you Judy for coming to teach, and for everyone who wanted to learn. What a great way to spend a weekend!

Sue and her Mayfair block that includes beautiful Art Gallery and Kathy Doughty fabrics. Sue's nails almost match her fabric choices, so I wonder then if choosing her fabric was a conscious choice or does she naturally tend to choose those colours?

New Saturday class

If you love the idea of working with beautiful wool fabrics and thick threads to create wonderful pieces, then we may just have the Saturday class you've been looking for. Chris Millar will be teaching a new Fancy Wool Work class one Saturday a month. Chris is a fabulous teacher as she is skilled in all of the techniques, and she has thorough notes to inspire you. Using lovely threads to embellish pieces of wool, you can then go on to create quilts, bags, folder covers, and table runners. The first class will be held on Saturday 8th of April, and then continue on as the second Saturday of each month (that is, the second class being Saturday 13th of May). The class will run from 10am to 1pm and will be $25 per class. If you would like to book your place, please contact the shop on 8346 0548.

Judy Newman workshop

We have a few spots remaining in our Judy Newman workshop that will be held on the weekend of the 18th & 19th of March.

Below are her two new quilts which she is happy to teach on the weekend, or, if you have a project that you have started with her previously and need some more inspiration on, she is happy to do that too.

The weekend workshop will be from 9:45am to 3:30pm on the Saturday and Sunday, and lunch will be included on both days (as will afternoon tea). For further enquiries or to book your place on this great weekend, call the shop on 08 8346 0548.

A couple of gems

Every now and then when reshuffling fabric around the shop, we come across little gems. Recently it was big eyed owl fabric by Dear Stella in oranges, blues, grey, yellow, and white, and also some fine bikes in grey, pink, teal, and green that caught my eye. These would make great book bags and you could line them in stripes, stars, or spots of your choice. Actually, they would make a lovely pillow cases to brighten up a bedroom.
